What’s it Like to have Ultherapy?
If you want to achieve a more youthful appearance using powerful, non-invasive methods, ultherapy could be for you. Ultherapy is an innovative cosmetic treatment with the power to improve skin firmness and elasticity.
Ultherapy: The Benefits of a Facelift Without the Drawbacks
Many people are interested in cosmetic procedures but want to avoid the downsides – significant recovery time and the possibility of scarring or other complications. Ultherapy can mimic effects of many procedures while avoiding the problems associated with surgery.
Ultherapy uses focused heat pulses to lift and tighten skin. Areas that can be treated include the face, neck, and chest. Just one short treatment can produce a noticeable improvement in wrinkles.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has cleared Ultherapy for use since 2009. It is approved for use in lifting the eyebrows, improving the appearance of the neck and area under the chin, and improving lines and wrinkles around the chest.
What to Expect the Day of Your Ultherapy Treatment
Conventional cosmetic procedures require a great deal of preparation and aftercare.
An ultherapy procedure lasts between 30 and 90 minutes. Discomfort is minimal and anesthesia is never needed. In fact, many patients report that they find the feeling of ultherapy pleasant and enjoyable. There is virtually no recovery time in most cases.
During the procedure, patients lie comfortably in a chair so that the presiding physician has access to the face. A specialized treatment device is used to guide gentle, targeted pulses into the areas to be treated. The sensation on the skin is very mild – a very brief sensation of heat.
As the process goes on, the feeling of heat does tend to build slightly. To ensure that the patient remains comfortable throughout, brief break periods are built in every fifteen minutes.
Getting the Most from Your Treatment
Results are usually noticeable right away and will continue to improve over the next 60 to 90 days. This is because the application of heat causes the body to generate collagen, the crucial protein that gives all the body’s connective tissues their stretch.
There may be slight redness for a day or two after the procedure. Swelling does not occur with all patients but might persist for 7-10 days if it does occur. Patients may be advised to avoid some OTC pain medications before and after treatment, as they can interfere with collagen production. However, most patients experience no lasting discomfort beyond an hour or so.
Are You a Suitable Candidate for Ultherapy?
Ultherapy can be used effectively for patients of virtually any age. It is appropriate for those who have mild wrinkles and sagging not usually deemed sufficient for a more rigorous treatment. It can also enhance the results that you might get from certain other cosmetic procedures.
There is very little risk of overcorrection, and most patients are happy with their results from the first few days after the procedure. The best way to determine if ultherapy is right for you is through a personalized consultation.
